Public accounts committee meet on agriculture at Haflong

The meeting of Public Accounts Committee ( PAC) of Assam Legislative Assembly took place under the Chairmanship of  Rajdeep Guala, MLA with the Department of  Agriculture, Dima Hasao on Wednesday at the Circuit House in Haflong . The other visiting members of PAC are : Ramendra Narayan Kalita, Hafiz Bashir Ahmad,Topon Kumar Gogoi and Utpol Dutta.  

The meeting started with the introduction of department officers with the PAC team members followed by oath taking of the officers of the department. 

It was followed by the Power Point presentation on different activities undertaken by the Agriculture Department, Dima Hasao under both state and central sector schemes.  

It was suggested that the department should give more emphasis on mechanization. Therefore, the district office of agriculture department should make laison with the Directorate of Agriculture, Assam regarding increasing the numbers of power tiller allotment as only 43 nos of power tiller has been allotted under BGREI 2016-17.  

The discussion was followed by field visit to Hirilal Hmar at village Retzol under Harangajao Agriculture Development Circle to see multiple cropping system by replacing jhum cultivation .  

Further, it was also suggested that the Agriculture Department should take up more convergence programmes with the other line departments.

The Union cabinet on Wednesday approved an institute of Indian Agriculture Research Centre in Assam. Presided over by prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, the meeting cleared the proposal to set  up the country’s premier institute at Gogamukh in Dhemaji bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Sources in Dispur said that the Assam government had also proposed a huge plot of 587 acres in Gogamukh for the project.
