Nazira Press club observes Foundation Day

History is the back-bone of a nation and no nation can thrive without its history,” said Mayur Bora, a well-known writer in a seminar organized by Nazira Press Club on its 26th Foundation Day on Saturday at Nazira. The seminar on “Study of History and the identity crisis of the ethnic people of Assam” was organized in the memory of journalist Pabonath Sarmah and Nilo Guhain with a day-long programme that saw distinguished gathering. Mayur Borah and Rajdip Bailung Baruahwere the chief guests. Both the speakers dwelt at length on the negative effects of globalization and free market economy that has been depriving the ethnic people of their rights on their own land. Hiranya Kumar Bhattachaya, Hemakanta Sarmah, Keshab Borgohain and Prasanta Dutta were felicitated by the Nazira Press Club on the occasion.

Congress leader and Nazira MLA Debobrat Saikia gets extortion call from ULFA for Rs 30 lakh in cash. According to information, he received the call on Thursday from a person who identified himself as Rupentor Axom who further threatened to kill him if he fails to pay the amount. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi took part at a panchayat election campaign meeting of congress paty at visit Lakuwa on Monday.  In his speech Gogoi said that the his party will win in all panchayat seats and rural people will vote for Congress for the peace and progress of the state. Two unskilled contractual workers of the ONGC were dead in a devasting fire at GGS No-3 of Gelakey on  January 11, 2013.
