Senior Cong leader dead

Senior Congress leader and former minister Bijit Saikia is dead at the age of 78leaving a pall of gloom in the state’s political scene.

Saikia, who was a minister in the Hiteswar Saikia cabinet died at the Down Town Hospital in Guwahati on Tuesday where he was undergoing treatment for a couple of weeks.

Many parties, organizations and individuals have condoled Saikia’s death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Senior Congress leaders thronged Rajiv Bhawan where the lifeless leader was brought to pay their last respect. Then the body was taken to his hometown Tezpur to be cremated in presence of his fans.
