Seminar on mushroom

The first national level seminar, first ever policy building process in the country, on mushroom has been held in Guwahati recently. The seminar was a jointly organised by Mushroom Development Foundation (MDF) and RuTAG - NE and was sponsored by the ASTEC and NEDFi.

The main objective of the seminar was, as stated by Pranjal Baruah, General Secretary, Mushroom Development Foundation, is to organize a policy building process on mushroom. During the period from 29th March to 27th April 2008 approximately 60 people lost their lives by eating poisonous mushrooms in Assam. These tragedies have not only taken the lives of the innocent people but also creating panic among the people. These incidents have an adverse effect on the mushroom farmers because the people's fear to eat food products made of mushroom. Moreover because of these type of incidents, sales of mushrooms came to a total stop throughout the state. So to tackle these problems, the Foundation is taking about framing a policy on mushroom, which will help to develop healthy economy. This seminar cum workshop aims to involve experts from various fields interact with the mushroom farmers, mushroom hunters and victims of wild mushroom poisoning coming from all over the North East.

Guwahati: Just few days after the water borne disease Diarrhea hit the people of Padum Pukhuri area of Uzanbazar area in Guwahati, once again outbreaks have been reported from the Krishnapur area near Beltola Guwahati on Friday. Two children Krishna Choudhury (7) and Rabi Das (10) have been found infected by the diarrhea disease till the report last came in. It may be mentioned that on 22nd of this month, two children died because of Diarrhea besides affecting 14 others who were later hospitalised at GMCH hospital for further treatment. A mob of about 5000 people at Raid Kyrdem village, Meghalaya on Monday afternoon set on fire five houses on suspicious of practicing witched craft at Mawbesien Village in Ri Bhoi District under Uniam Police Station. The Deodhani festival at Kamakhya temple, Guwahati has started on 19-08-07 where evotees painted their bodies with red colour and carry a goat and pigeon for sacrifice. Kamakhya temple is considered the principle seat of the Hindu cult of Shaktism (Tantra) There are actually two types of Deodhani nritya. State bank of India inaugurates its 183rd ATM of the North East Circle at Dispur under Dispur Branch. This is also the 35th ATM in Guwahati, which is dedicated to the service of ATM customers.The present average hit rate in ATM’s in the entire North East is over three hundred per day and in major cities long queues are observed which encourages SBI to open more ATM centers. After getting positive response, SBI aims to install another three hundred ATM’s including railway stations within March 2008.
