The Assam Government and a delegation of Gorkha Autonomous Council Demand Committee agreed on a number of issues confronting the Gorkhas for years and resolved to address the concerns in a amicable way.
This was more or less of what the Gorkha leaders and Assam government talked on Tuesday before GACDC chairman Harka Bahadur Chetry ended his fast at Dighalipukhuri Par.
A seven member GACDC delegation led by Chetry talked to the state home Commissioner and Secretary L S Changsan, State NRC Co-ordinator Prateek Hajela additional DGP Pallab Bhattacharrya and welfare secretary Hazowaryat yhe Assam Secretariat in the afternoon where both sided exchanged assurances.
In the meeting all the demands put forth by the GACDC through the Memorandum submitted by GACDC to the Chief Minister on 10th Sept 2016 at Brahmaputra State Guest House after the Raithaney Gorkha Janabhela was discussed elaborately.
Chetri successfully completed 600 km Marathon March from Jonai in Dhemaji to Dispur Guwahati demanding Gazette notification for Gorkhas as Indigenous in Assam against discrimination in marking OI in NRC updation process. Following this meeting the Government of Assam officially started the bilateral talks with GACDC and the later suspended it's democratic agitation for the time being.
