A constitutional bench of the Supreme Court will hear a set of petitions pertaining to 13 issues confronting Assam and its people. These include the validity of the Assam Accord, move to amend the Citizenship Act and its impending impact on Assam, NRC, infiltration.
A division bench of the country’s apex court comprising chief justice JS Khehar. Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice SK Kaul on Tuesday decided to set up the special bench to start hearing on day to day basis from May 11.
The petitioners include AsomSahitya Sabha, Ahom Sabha, Assam Public Works who moved the court challenging the validity of certain clauses of the Assam Accord 1985, cut off date, Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 apart from other issues including NRC and cross border infiltration.
