Lieztietsu Nagaland CM

The paralyzing political turmoil is nearing an end after a crucial meeting of Naga Peopls’ Front legislators unanimously elected Shurhozelie Lieztietsu the right person to replace TR Zeliang as Nagaland chief minister on Monday.

The 81 year old political leader’s name was formally proposed at the NPF legislative body meeting at the State Banquet Hall in Kohima in the morning 12 hours after Zeliang tendered his resignation before governor PB Acharya.

Minutes after the unanimous decision, the DAN legislators met and endorsed the decision and drive down to the Raj Bhawan to stake claims to form the new government.

Former chief minister Neuphu Rio also tried his level best poaching a section of NPF and BJP MLAs after getting tacit support from the independent legislators. But finally, all NPF legislators stood united on behalf of the party president who is taking oath on Tuesday.

The impasse erupted following the indefinite shut down demanding Zeliang’s resignation for allowing the civic body polls with 33 percent reservation for women triggering widespread protest among a number if civil society organizations.
