Louis Berger episode seems have resurfaced to embroil fresh trouble for Himanta Biswa Sarma giving much ammonition to Congressmen to target their former fellow.
The US department of justice is understood to have agreed to provide the evidential documents to substantiate the multi crore Louis Berger kick back to procure the award of contract in Guwahati metropolitan city a couple of years back.
Amid much hue and cry, the erstwhile Tarun Gogoi government ordered a CID probe which is going on. But the probe refused to progress in the absence of crucial documents justifying the kick back allegations where the name of Himanta Biswa Sarma was involved who was GMDA minister during the Gogoi regime.
But neither the centre nor the state is interested to extract the documents in consultation with the US authorities to carry forward the investigation. The Congress leadership in Assam are believed to have maintained stoic silence for allowing it to happen in the Gogoi’s 15 year long regime.
Despite demand for CBI probe, Gogoi instituted a CID probe and washed his hands off saying that more documents are required to move CBI. That too amid his bitter relationship with Sarma who revolted against him.
Then the central BJP leaders called Sarma as the key accused in the scam. But later they brushed aside the allegations after Sarma’s entry into the saffron Party. Then they gave clean-chit to Sarma calling inadequate evidence.
