Hayat Hospital conducts GPC clinic

Physicians from the city based Hayat Hospital conducted the Saturday evening OPD at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on 7 January. Dr Anjan Saikia (Gastroenterology), Dr Daboo Patowari (Internal Medicine) and Dr Abhisek Lohia (Dermatology) offered free consultations after checking their blood pressure & sugar. Over 35 participants joined in the evening clinic.

Hayat Hospital has also announced various concessions in treatment for press club members along with their families. Paragjyoti Dutta, assistant general manager of the hospital informed that they would get special discount on OPD/Doctor Consultation Charges (100%), Room Rent (25%), Lab Investigation (20%), CT/USG/X-Ray (20%), MRI/MR Angiography (20%), EEG, ECG,TMT, HOLTER, ECHO (20%), Colonoscopy & Endoscopy (20%), Operation Theatre Charges (10%) and Medicine (5%).

Next GPC evening clinic will be conducted by Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya Guwahati on 21 January. The eye camp at press club premises will begin at 4 pm and continue till 6 pm. The 14 January camp has been cancelled due to Magh Bihu celebrations.

Till date, practicing physicians from Dispur Hospitals, Down Town Hospitals, GNRC Group of Hospitals, Narayana Super-Specialty Hospitals, Swagat Super-Surgical Institute, Wintrobe Hospital, Nemcare Hospital, Sun Valley Hospital, Sight First eye-clinic, Government Ayurvedic College, Barthakur Clinic, Apollo Hospitals Chennai etc had conducted weekly camps.

Similarly, Medanta-The Medicity Hospital Gurgaon, Gauhati Medical College, GMC Panbazar campus, Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad, Rahman Hospital etc have shown interest in conducting the camps titled ‘Evening with a Doctor’ in the coming days.

Red senders seized

Central customs department has seized a consignment of red senders from a truck in Guwahati on Tuesday.Acting on a tip off, customs officials conducted a search operation at a truck in Nineth Mile area in the afternoon where senders almost weighing by 8 tonnes worth Rs 1.5 crore were recovered which was concealed by potato and fruits.The smuggled red senders were believed to have been brought towards China. One person has been arrested in this connection.    

AASU leader joins BJP

Senior AASU leader Rituparna Baruah on Tuesday joined BJP a day after he quit the student leader.Baruah, the central committee member joined the party at a meeting in presence of state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal.

AGP meeting on Feb 22

AGP is all set to hold a brainstorming session on Saturday to chalk out a slew of strategies to put up good show in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Senior party leaders told Assam Times that the central executive body meeting will formally take decision on forging pre poll pact with BJP in the upcoming polls.Both the parties have yet to approach each other on forging pre poll pact. A section of the party leaders have been strongly pursuing a tie up to defeat Congress.  

Arrear talks positive

It’s a rare does of good news for around 4 lakh state government employees. Courtesy Dispur. But in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday agreed to release arrear amounts for six months to the employees, obviously, to woo them before the polls.The decision was announced during Gogoi’s meeting with the Sadou Asom Karmachari Parishad members at Koinadhara in the evening.    The state government employees body has been demanding arrear amounts for 33 months. But Gogoi ultimately agreed to release arrears of 6 months. Other amounts would be released in a phase manner after the Lok Sabha polls.

KMSS ultimatum on pattas

KMSS threatens to hit the streets against if the government fails to issue land pattas to the landless farmers by February 25.A huge gathering of the KMSS workers made it plain that they would not even try to disrupt the Rahul Gandhi’s huge rally in Guwahati if they donot get land pattas.

3 injured in mob attack

Sensation seems to have escalated in Barpeta where an irate mob attacked three of a family alleging their involvement in a number of dacoity cases.The incident took place at Bartari in Barpeta on Tuesday when local residents in large number took out the trio, tied them with a rope on the street and were mercilessly beaten up.The irate mob further burnt down their house after recovering some stolen and robbed materials including gold chains, mobile phones, watch.Police rushed to the spot. But the mob refused to disperse initially. Later, the situation was brought under control.  

Passenger killed in clash

A city bus passenger was killed during a clash with the bus conductor in Guwahati on Tuesday.The incident took place at Panbazar area in the morning where the passenger suddenly succumbed to injuries following an altercation with the bus conductor.Later, police arrested the accused city bus conductor.

Dam equipment hits roadblock

Amid massive security, a huge trailer is believed to have been carrying vital equipment for big dams in Arunachal Pradesh.The trailer managed to crossed Guwahati on Monday night and is set to reach Tezpur on Tuesday afternoon triggering protest in Nagaon.  KMSS activists, which has been dead opposed to the dams in Gerukamukh are trying to resist the move by holding road blockade in some places on the National Highway 37.
