Children book released at press club

A collection of adventure stories in Assamese named Kutkut-Tuktukar Abhiyan by journalist-writer Nilotpal Barua was released at Guwahati Press Club on Thursday. Published by Pratishruti Prakashan, the book comprises eight stories, which were earlier published in popular Assamese children monthly ‘Sofura’. The book was officially released by Rupam Barua, editor of Sofura in presence of journalists Nava Thakuria, Bedabrat Bora, Abinash Sharma etc.

The Nagaon police have arrested four traders charging them with assaulting the former rebels who were believed to have been raising fund to feed the flood hit people.  According to information, the police have arrested the owner of the shop Raju Das along with his associates Manu Das, N Das, Utpal Das who assaulted the former rebels.  But two persons who were behind the incident have yet to be identified.

One month has passed since the management has locked out the Borgaon Tea Estate in Biswanath district allowing 70 workers and their family members to languish in dying agony.  Despite repeated appeal, the management is allegedly not in a mood to withdraw the lock out. Three persons died when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided its head on a moving truck in Gohpur on Saturday. The incident took place when the trio who were travelling by their four wheeler and ad they reached the Chariduwar College the vehicle colluded its head on a speedy truck. The overall flood scene improves following thr halt of rains during that last 70 hours. The water level of thr Brahmaputra and its tributaries have shown a receding trend and if it continues the situation would improve further during the next few days. A special court in Guwahati has issued arrest warrant against Rakesh Paul two days after the former APSC chairman procured bail from the Supreme Court. Acting on a fresh complaint filed by a youth in Bhangagarh police station, alleging that Paul demanded bribe from him for job the court issued warrant against Paul and to produce him before it accordingly. Meanwhile, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi alleged on Thursday that the BJP led government in Dispur indirectly helped Paul procure bail.
