Centre puts Assam government on alert as I-Day is nearing

The Centre has put the Assam Government on alert apprehending ULFA's massive strike during the Independence day celebrations on August 15. According to information, acting on some specific inputs that ULFA is drawing up a blue print for a massive strike during the Independence Day programme, the Centre has alerted the Dispur to be extra vigilant. According to information, the Union home ministry has told Dispur to intensify security measures especially around vital installations as ULFA militants have been targeting these places in support of their demands.

The Centre further has asked Dispur to deploy adequate security personnel in all towns and Guwahati city as there have been recent strikes by the rebels in urban areas. This was discussed in detail at a meeting of Unified Command Structure held in Guwahati on recently in presence of senior officials of Army, state police, CRPF and BSF. The meeting decided to put the security agencies engaged in counter- insurgency operations on alert.

Again poaching has rocked the Kaziranga National Park on Monday night. The body of the rhino was spotted at the Bagori range on Tuesday morning. The poachers took away the horn after killing the rhino with 303 rifles. The incident took place hardly 24 hours after forest minister Rockybul Hussain suggested a slew of measures to stop poaching in the state’s sanctuaries. The park authority restricted the entry of media people who rushed to the sport when the message was spreading like wildfire. This is the fifth rhino to be poached this year itself.
