JFA bats for Janasadharan

Journalists Forum Assam {JFA} expresses its worries over the recent submission of the management of Janasadharan {www.janasadharan.in} about its inability to continue publishing the city based Assamese daily newspaper for a longer period as it was losing its readers rapidly. Unconfirmed report also reveals that the management has decided to cease its publication by 30 November. The JFA argues that many newspaper house-owners in northeast India start closing their outlets fearing of the Supreme Court’s verdict over the implementation of Majithia Wage Board recommendations for the benefit of the print media employees.

According to the apex court of the country, each and every newspaper & news agency in India must hike the salary & other benefits to their employees since November 2011 under the new wage board recommendations. As most of the media houses in the region have not implemented the recommendations till date, every employee now claim 60 months’ outstanding payments.

The JFA appeals to the Janasadharan management not to think of closing the newspaper as it would render hundred employees jobless immediately. It also urges the editor of the newspaper, who is a recognized Assamese intellectual, along with his colleagues to pursue with their management to resolve the crisis amicably.
