Besides three universities in Assam who came forward to show case the values of Mother Teresa on her sainthood, a fourth varsityheld a programme commemorating the canonization of Mother Teresa as ‘Saint Teresa of Calcutta’.
The Assam Don Bosco University, the first private university in the state established in 2008 held a special assembly in its Azara campus, 20th September 2016.
Other universities in Assam who vowed to take forward the mission and message of Mother Teresa on the occasion of her canonization are Gauhati University, Down Town University and Cotton College University Guwahati.
Starting with paying tributes to Mother, the homage programme went on with a skit performed by an all girls’ group, highlighting the teachings of Mother Teresa.
Ms. Asna Doley, a student of Mechanical Engineering spoke about the life and works of Mother Teresa in her speech while Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University, Fr. Joseph Nellenatt told the gathering about how a small girl Agnes came on to become Mother for all and then a Saint.
“Mother Teresa is a mother for all, her children is the entire human race.” said Fr Nellanatt.
The hour-long programme ended with a choir performance of Mintionetthe Fancon and group which mesmerized the audience with one of Mother’s favourite hymns – Make Me a Channel of Your Peace written by Saint Francis of Assisi.
A video clip was screened containing the poem “O Mother” written, composed and recited by Dr. Amarjyoti Choudhury, former Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University. It was earlier played in Rome at the Don Bosco Headquarters during the Art of Giving presentation by Sunita Bhuyan.
The video was also shown on the occasion of canonization celebration of Mother Teresa by the Archdiocese of Guwahati and the Salesian Province of Guwahati.
Assam Don Bosco University's annual college week D'VERVE was inaugurated on 10th March 2014 by Mr. Universe and famous body-builder Mahadev Deka. A peace rally on this occasion themed UNITED NORTHEAST PEACE RALLY was taken out from the university premises to Dharapur Chariali in the presence of Mahadev Deka, Vice chancellor Fr. Stephen Mavely, Principal Dr. Manoranjan Kalita, Co-ordinator Monmoyuri Baruah, other dignitaries, faculty members and all the students.
