Over 250 hectares of paddy field were affected due to attacked of army-worms in Kokrajhar district since few days back. On the other hand, farmers express their resented as concern agriculture departmental official rushed the affected area lately in their punctual responsibilities in the region.
Agriculture department official and staffs have been initiating with strong measures to control army-worms attack on paddy plants in all concern affected areas.
Agricultural officials rushed at Dabwrgaon Kultungpara near Nayekgaon, Pakripara near Salkocha and Chitila,Pratapkata area in the district and held awareness meeting with farmer and citizens followed making facility for spraying of medicines to control army worms along the paddy land.
MN Swargiary, district agriculture officer, Kokrajhar told that over 250 hectares of paddy land were affected due to attack of army worms in the district and around 50 percent of affected land are returning to control followed stern measures from concern department. He said that army worms generally attack the paddy plants with damaging paddy’s growth and develop. He said that his department has been taking stern measures to control attacks. He has appealed farmer and citizens not to be panic over the growing attacks of army worms in the district because disease is controlling with strong initiatives.
“We initiated stern measure to the diseases after getting information about growing diseases in the district. We provide medicines from department assoonas possible so that disease is controlled in a speedy manner. Fifty percent of the affected paddies lands are reaching in controlled so far in the district with safe and control initiatives”, Swargiary said.
Farmers expresses resented as departmental have taken late action over diseases that saw in the region. They demanded early control of army worms’ diseases to get healthy growth and safe of paddy plants.
“Army worms attacked our paddy plants with damaging growth of plants. Officials reach here with little late as diseases were noticed few days back in the area. We want department should take stern measure to control army worms”, farmers said.
Abinash Basumatary, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Parbatjhora Division in Kokrajhar district, was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting a bribe during a raid conducted by the CM Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Branch on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip-off, the CM Vigilance team carried out an operation in Parbatjhora, during which the DFO was detained for allegedly accepting a bribe from a contractor.
According to sources, Basumatary allegedly accepted Rs 2 lakh from a contractor in exchange for clearing pending bills during office hours. Following the operation, he was taken into custody and is currently being interrogated for further investigation.

A wild elephant damaged two houses at Laokriguri village under Gongia VCDC in Kokrajhar district late on Tuesday night, triggering panic among local residents.
According to local sources, the elephant reportedly strayed from the nearby forest area of Raimona National Park into the village while searching for food. The animal damaged the houses belonging to two families before moving away.
Family members of the affected households managed to escape safely and no casualties were reported in the incident.
