Electronic Media Forum Assam {EMFA} strongly condemns the vandalism engineered by a section of youths targeting the on duty media persons in front of Guwahati Railway Station on Thursday night and urges the authority to nab the culprits immediately.
According to the eye witnesses, a section of Cotton College hostel boarders had arrived on the location in the night hours, where some auto-drivers were already indulging in clashes with few taxi-drivers, and the group of Cottonians started the vandalism. Many private vehicles were damaged by the students.
The hostel boarders also targeted the television journalists from various news channels, who went to the location following the clashes, where at least two media persons received serious injuries and few cameras got damaged.
“We appeal to the authority of prestigious Cotton College to clarify their stand on the issue. Moreover, we urge the police to take prompt actions to identify and bring those hooligans under the law,” said a statement issued by EMFA, adding that it would continue pursuing for a special protection law for the media persons on duty to deal with similar situations.
