City on high alert for I-Day celebration

The capital city is on a high alert after serial blasts rocked the IT hub of India Bangalore and Ahmedabad recently. Security has been tightened in all the major places of the city. All vehicles are thoroughly checked in city entry points at Khanapara and Azara. The vehicles and luggage of the commuters are thoroughly scrutinized at various check points in the city. Para military forces and state police have been engaged in large number for security purpose. The process of scanning vehicles have been easier now as all the day and night super buses operate from ISBT which is located at Lokhra outskirts of Guwahati. Additional forces have cordoned off the Latasil playground which is the venue for holding the Independence Day celebration function. DGP R N Mathur informed media persons that in view of the recent rift in the banned outfit ULFA over cease fire by one section. The possibility of miscreants creating disturbances during the Independence day swells up. The state police have been directed to be more vigil after bomb hoax incident at Paltan Bazar railway station. Commuters, pillion riders are the worse sufferer of the high alert situation in the city. No untoward incidents have so far been reported.
