AJYCP has lashed out at the Sarbananda Sonowal government in Assam alleging its utter failure to deal with the devastating problems of flood, erosion and encephalitis in the state.
In statement issued here on Wednesday, AJYCP president Biraj Kumar Sarma said, “the current flood wave has, in fact, exposed the utter inefficiency of the government where nearly 50 people died not to speak of the lakhs of affected people in the state. The government failed to demand even a single paise to counter the ravaging situation and the Centre dispatched Union home minister Rajnath Singh only to wash its hands off.”
He further came down heavily on the BJP-led government for alleging failure to rein in the outbreak of encephalitis which has claimed 218 people. “We have yet to see any stepped up initiative from the government,” said Talukdar.
Talukdar accused the BJP leaders for maintaining a studied silence on the rhino poaching incidents in Kaziranga alleging that they launched statewide protest against rhino poaching cases when the Congress was in power. He said, “a rhino poaching incident in Kaziranga drew a knee-jerk reaction across the state thanks to them. But 25 rhinos died in poaching and flood since the BJP-led government took the oath. These leaders have been maintaining a studied silence forcing us to believe that the acrimony over the rhino poaching incidents were politically motivated.”
Targeting Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the AJYCP leader said that the minister has been exposed during the last three months. “BJP drew applause in the nook and corner of the state when he called the assembly polls the last battle of Saraighat to save Assam. Now, it has proved beyond doubt that really it is last battle to end up Assam, its people and the resources.”
