Forest Minister and local MLA for Kokrajhar eastPramila Rani Brahma join hands with villagers to make diversion for water harvesting on Saralbhanga River for the villagers at Saralpara Ultapani area laong Indo-Bhutan border in Kokrajhar district just few days’ post floods as villagers have been facing water crisis in the region. Brahma visited the area on Tuesday accompanied by officials from Water Resources department along Indo-Bhutan border area where few days back rain water from Bhutan site created havoc floods eroded large areas of the villagers damaging several matori and properties.
Brahma initiated the River diversion work on Saralbhanga River with pitching boulder to harvest water for the villagers of greater Saralpara,Ultpani area.
Hundreds of villagers dedicated their work to divert water from the river,which was affected badly in recent flood along Indo-Bhutan border villages.
River water which were brought to the villages through cannal,were totally dried post floods and citizens are facing water crisis in the region.The flood waters washed away and eroded bundh,matory besides damaging properties of the area.But,interestingly, citizens are now water hardships following post floods.Villagers dedicated their services to divert river water for domestic uses in the region because river was is the lifeline for humanity and livestock.
Brahma said government has been initiated to divert river water from Saralbhanga River so that citizens could be availed waters for their livelihood.She said that she has visited the flood sites and took stock about damage and causes in the recent havoc floods in the area.

A wild elephant damaged two houses at Laokriguri village under Gongia VCDC in Kokrajhar district late on Tuesday night, triggering panic among local residents.
According to local sources, the elephant reportedly strayed from the nearby forest area of Raimona National Park into the village while searching for food. The animal damaged the houses belonging to two families before moving away.
Family members of the affected households managed to escape safely and no casualties were reported in the incident.
The incident has once again brought attention to the growing human-elephant conflict in areas surrounding the national park and adjoining forest regions.
