The Supreme Court’s ruling on the Lodha Committee report suggests the end of the road for Himanta Biswa Sarma in Assam Cricket Association a couple of weeks after he took its reins.
Sarma assumed the charge after the exist of Gautom Roy who was his cabinet colleague in the erstwhile Tarun Gogoi Government. Sarma struck the advantage through BCCI president Anurag Thakur, who is also a senior BJP leader.
The apex court said on Monday that BCCI should be free from ministers and bureaucrats upholding the major recommendation of the Justice Lodha panel set up to suggest the administrative reforms in the world's richest national cricket body.
The former chief justice of India and two of his judges recommended age and tenure restrictions for top officials and cooling off period between successive terms for top officials among others. The court has given six months time for BCCI to implement these recommendations.
