Hours after assuming charge as Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday, Nabam Tukia and his camp have stepped up efforts to rope in the sitting Congress legislators to survive. Apart privately talking to the Congress MLAs over telephone from New Delhi, Tuki has issued a statement with an appeal to them to come back to his camp.
Tuki has sent a joining letter to Arunachal Pradesh T Roy who is expected to talk to him regarding the upcoming floor test. Congress president Sonia Gandhi has asked Tuki to the party MLAs in confidence before proceeding to start the historic inning. Tuki’s aides have been personally approaching a number of legislators or former loyalists who are believed to have agreed to come to take Tuki’s side.
Kalikho Pul is also not sitting idle. The controversial chief minister who has outside support from BJP is equally trying to woes the legislators. “Numbers matter in democracy. I am confident of my strength,” said Pul who was attending a huge political summit in Guwahati on Wednesday.
According to political experts, Tuki is likely to face a tough time to prove the numbers to survive even after the Supreme Court took his side.
