In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. These 15 include three Baruah and Anil Kumar Jain, Pramod Kumar Sharma, Rahul Dasgupta, Utpal Borah, PK Rao, Dr Ashutosh Karnataka, Saumendra Kumar Baruah, Dr Sunil Y Bharati and Bedanta Sarmah, Robin Deka, SB Buragohain.
Marks of crack is spotted on the walls of the Deputy Commissioner’s office building after the Sunday’s morning quake.Official sources told Assam Times that many buildings developed cracks under the impact of the tremor forcing the people to come out of their houses.Local residents came out in large numbers to escape the death when the building were shaking.

Four persons were killed when the vehicle carrying them hit into a truck in Lakhimpur district o Sunday.The accident took place at Laluk area in the wee hour when the Swift Desire vehicle in wich they were trvelling hit on a strandred truck.Three persons died on the spot while another died on the way to the hospital. A court in Guwahati on Friday asked the Assam Cricket Association not to hold its annual session and general election for the time being.Acting on a petition filed by a state cricket body member Tapan Hazarika, a bench of Justice PD Gogoi restrained ACA from holding the session and election scheduled for Friday in Silchar.Hazarika alleged before the court that the state’s cricket board has yet to clear its accounts and audits for the last couple of years.This is not for the first time ACA had to suspend annual session and election. The cricket body was prevented from holding fresh election on earlier two occasions.

More than 60 women courted arrest on Friday when they staged dharna in Guwahati demanding removal of APSC chairman alleging rampant corruption in the civil service examinations.Hundreds of women representing the women KMSS started staging dharna in front of the APSC office premises at 11 in the morning some of whom were thrashed and were taken to the Basistha police station.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh will be on a stock taking visit to Dhubri on June 29. During his two days visit, Singh is scheduled to take stock of the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing work. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi criticized the Narendra Modi government on Thursday for failing to enlist the state in the list of proposed six new IIMs.In a statement, Gogoi accused the Centre of paying only lip services to the state. He said, Modi made tall promises for the northeast before the polls. However, the manner in which Assam is left out from the recent announcement is another example of NDA's neglect of the state."Assam fails to find place in the list of the proposed Indian Institutes of Management even after Centre’s promises. The beneficiaries are Visakhapatnam, Bodh Gaya, Sirmaur, Nagpur, Sambalpur and Amritsar.
