Sales Tax dept. detects huge goods in Kokrajhar

The flying squad from Sales Tax department and police seized three buses and detected huge goods from different places in Kokrajhar district in last 48 hours bound for several districts of Assam, which were carrying goods without paying taxes from West Bengal state.

Menwhile, drivers of the buses alleged that no any checking was made along the gate from officials while entering in Assam soil.

The flying squad, which was consisted of officials from sales tax and police,have been conducted surprize checking along the National Highway at Karigaon and Labrabati on Tuesday night where two buses were detected coming with huge load without paying any taxes along the checking gate at Srirampur,which were bound for Bongaigaon and Barpeta district.On Monday too,flying squad detected a bus at Serfanguri which was carrying goods declining to pay taxes along the check gate. Market value of the detected goods would be 4-5 lakhs,which included Biri,cloths,toys,food items,tea leaves,cosmetics and these have been penetrated by some tax non-payers through taking brokerers along the gates.

Babul Chandra Kakati,Superintendent of Taxes said that tax department has been stepping stern job to check against tax non-payers in the district. The flying sqaud has been checking goods carrying vehicles from West Bengal to Assam through alternative routes avoiding the taxation gates of Assam at Boxirhat and Srirampur.He said atleest three buses were detected which were carrying huge goods without paying tax.

‘We detected buses,which were illegally carried goods without paying taxes along the check gates.We are checking strong manner to check non-tax payers in the district so that government could receive lots revenue. The market value of seized goods would be around 4-5 lakhs.The seized goods would be fined huge amount tune as per guideline from tax commissioner’, Kakati said.

Drivers of the detected buses told that they were detained for carrying goods on buses.They also alleged that no any checking was saw along the check gates at Srirampur and Barobisha of which why they could pass the road without paying taxes every day.They every day pay around 600-800 to the gate when they carry over loads on the buses.

‘We were detected by police for carrying goods on bus.We every day run our drive from Kokrajhar,Bongaigaon and Barpeta for Alipur Duar of West Bengal,but no any check saw along the Srirampur check gate while passing.Goods every day loaded at Alipur Duar bustand for Assam’s several districts for which we get huge amount as rented to run the drive’,one of detected driver said.

KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar.
