AJYCP strike on Monday

The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.

The big question is when Public Sector companies like OIL and ONGC cannot make profit from these fields, how can Private Sector Parties can make profit. Are they superior to ONGC or OIL in in technology, equipments and manpower ?

MLA faces CRPF assault

CRPF jawans physically assaulted Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Friday when he went to inquire about two tea planters who were kidnapped from Mariani. The inciden took place after Nagaland police handed over the duo to Assam counterpart.Two tea garden labourers, Atul Kurmi and Ranjit Nayak, of Naginijan tea estate were kidnapped by miscreants from Nagaland on Thursday. Kurmi along with his supporters went on a rampage, damaging several vehicles and gheraoing the police station. But CRPF jawans beat up him along with his supporters.

NO BJP vote in RS poll

Assam BJP legislators will abstain from voting in the Rajya Sabha polls on May 30.Party president Sarbananda Sonowal said that the MLAs would not vote as the party did not support any of the contestants - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Santius Kujur of the Congress and AIUDF's Aminul Islam. The BJP has five members in the 126-member House.

Another rhino poaching in Kaziranga

Rhino poaching seems to have recurred in Kaziranga. A female rhinoceros was found dead with gunshot wounds and its horn removed in the Kaziranga National Park on Friday.The horn is off from the carcass near Dhanbari camp under Agratoli range by forest guards, taking the total number of the pachyderms killed this year to 25. Three bullet injuries were spotted on the carcass and three used cartridges of an AK-47 rifle were found from the spot.

Book release: Oronyot Boroxun

A book based on a screenplay of an unfinished cinema by late Mrinalkanti Das titled Oronyot Boroxun (Rain in the Forest) released at a function at Guwahati Press Club on the Friday. Noted writer Apurba Sarma formally relased the book.Long back in 2004, cinematographer-director Mrinalkanti Das planned to make a feature film. But he met with an accident while going for location hunt. He expired in that accident and his dream debut film as director remained unfinished. In what can be termed as a welcome news for the Assamese film industry, “Mayong: Myth/Reality”, directed by Utpal Borpujari and produced by Jayanta Goswami, will be archived by the Royal Anthropological Institute (RAI) of Great Britain and Ireland so that researchers and academicians associated with cultural ethnography studies can access the documentary.A communication to this effect has been sent to Borpujari by Susanne Hammacher, film officer with the RAI. “We will take the film up to Edinburgh and it will be available in the video library and for any future visitors at the RAI for consultation,” she informed Borpujari. Achievement likely for Manish

Another Assam youth Manish Kumar Deka is likely to climb the great mountain on Sunday. HS results on Monday

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is all set to announce the HS results in all streams on Monday. The results would be available for all at 10 in the morning. Students can view the results through online websites on the mentioned date, for the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) which conducted the examination in the month of March 2013. Properties worth twenty lakhs were reduced to ashes when a devastating fire broke out at a car workshop in Dibrugarh district on Sunday.The fire took place at Laipuli early in the morning due to electric short circuit which later engulfed the entire workshop. Police took several hours to bring the situation under control. The real extent of damage is yet to be ascertained.
