Bandh call hits Nazira

The 12 hour bandh call in protest against the move to auction 12 oil fields heavily hit normal life in Nazira on Tuesday.

Called by the Tai Ahom Youva Parishad, the bandh got total response in the entire Nazira sub division where schools and colleges, banks and other public and private institutions remained closed. Many picketers enforced the bandh by burning tyres on the roads apart from shouting slogans against the central and state governments.

Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, vice president of Nazira Regional Student Union is expelled from AASU for his anti organisational activities. In a recent press release Himanta Saikia, president and Sabri Ishlam Secretary of Nazira Regional Student Union informed that the decission was taken at their executive meeting and they requested everybody not to contact with Mahanta regarding AASU.

Patients in Nazira are facing serious problems due to the lack of doctors at Nazira subsidary health centre. Along with a large number of patients and AASU activists visited the hospital campus on Wednesday at 7 PM and burnt the effigy of the Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma. According to the Nazira Anchalik Student Union, if the situation won't improve, they will lock the hospital.
Foundation stone of Athkhel weekly market laid down by the Jorhat MP B K Handique on May 18. The total cost of the plan is Rs.25 lakh which will be provided by the Zilla Parishad under 13th Finance commission. In this connection a public meeting was held, where local MLA Debobrat Saikia, border magistrate of Nazira Richand Ahmed were present alongwith other dignatories .
An undentified dead body of a person, age 35 approximately, was found at the boundary wall of one Tankeshwas Saulkora's residence at  Monipuri Borkola village, Simaluguri. The dead body was hanging in a suspicious position on the wall.Police investigation is going on in this regard.
Kumud Sahu of Lakshmi Nagar Tea Estate was arrested in connection of a journalist assult case at Gelakey on May 10. The  case was registered at Gelakey Police station. Tea labour organisation of Nazira colourfully observed  May Day at Mackeypor. In this connection Zumur competition is organised .Former Durpad Borgohain, Kanak Gogoi took part in the event. The labour organisation also demanded increse of minimum wages of all tea and agricultural labours to Rs.200 per day, supply of pure drinking water, medical facility and infrastracture development of tea estates. They also demanded Rs.2000 monthly penson for tea and agricultural labours.
Construction of the much awaited Fire Station of Nazira opposite Nazira Police Station at a cost more than 1 crore. But already poor construction is noticed. A bim of the said building is already craked. Different organisatins of Nazira have raised concern on the poor construction and demanded proper monitoring by concerned authorities. 
Demanding reservison of all 3rd and 4th grade posts in ONGC for local unemployed youths AASU, AJYCP, ATASU, ATTSA etc. of Sivasagar district staged a dharna in front of the main gate of ONGC Nazira on Sunday. ONGC organised a written test for 328 departmental candidates to regularised their 3rd grade posts among these 187 candidates were from the outside the state. According to AASU leaders, ONGC already promised to fill up its all 3rd and 4th grade posts locally, but instead of it in the name of departmentel interview the they are going to fill up these posts nationally.
