Ex-BLT welfare Society welcome ST status

The ex-BLT Welfare Society expressed gratitude over the Union Cabinet decision to granting ST(Hills) status to the Bodo people living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district and the Karbis living in plains of Assam.

Speaking the Reporters in Kokrjhar today, Chairman of ex-BLT Welfare Society Janamahan Moshahary said we welcome the decision of the Union Cabinet of ST status to the Bodos(Hills) and Karbis(Plain) in Assam which is the long standing demands and part of the Bodo Accord signed in 2003 between the Govt of India, Assam govt and the BLT.

‘We are very much thankful to the Prime Minister Narendra Modiji and also the chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal for implementation of the Clauses of Bodo accord, Moshahary said adding that the accord were not implemented during the UPA regime both in the Centre and State despite repeated request by various organisations. The Congress never took step in implementing the clauses part of the Bodo accord.

He said the NDA government which was accidentally was the govt in Delhi when the accord was signed stepped up in implementing the clauses of the accord and fulfilled the commitment made.

The Union Cabinet yesterday cleared ST status to two tribal communities in Assam. According to official sources, the Union Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared introduction of two Bills in Parliament for certain amendments in the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950, so as to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in the States of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Tripura and identification of new communities in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The communities, according to approved modalities, were found to be eligible for their inclusion in, exclusion from and other modifications in the list of Scheduled Tribes.In Assam, Boro, Boro Kachari and Karbi (Mikir) were granted ST status. The Bodos have for long been fighting for ST status to Bodos living in the hill districts of Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong. He also assured full corporation to the new govt in Assam.

Ex-BLT Welfare Society on pending cases

The ex-BLT Welfare Society also urged the government both in the Delhi and Assam to to take immediate measures for the withdrawal of all the Bodoland movement related pending cases lying with different courts of law against the Bodo people including the former cadres of erstwhile BLT with immediate effect.

Moshahary said cases against the people associated with Bodoland movemnegt are still pending at various courts. He said as per the Bodo Accord signed in 2003, all pending cases related to Bodoland movement would be withdrawn but even after 13 years many cases are still pending at various court. We demands that the govt ensure withdrawal of these cases at the earliest, he said.

Moshahary also called upon the BJP led NDA government in Delhi to held negotiation with all the militants groups in Assam, including the NDFB, ULFA, KLO for a peaceful and lasting solution.

BPF chief Hagrama Mohilary was granted bail on Saturday and released against case CR 34/2020, accused of section 120-B/500 IPC from CJM court in Kokrajhar.
