The North East Youth Foundation (NEYF) in association with Kokrajhar district committee of All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) organized a round table discussion on human rights at Bishmuri anchalik ABSU office on Wednesday in Kokrajhar to finding out youth perspectives on human rights and how they see among their life.
The aim of the round table was to find out youth perspectives on human rights and making awareness about youth as well society, was supported by North East Dialogue Forum. The discussion was chaired by Nion Mushahary , secretary of Kokrajhar district committee ABSU and moderated by Ranjan Kumar Baruah from NEYF.
Participants have raised different issues related to human rights starting from educational many rights of students, health rights, etc. the main issue of discussion was related to witch hunting in the locality. A college going student was killed on Aprill 22 on suspect of witch practices. Participants have mentioned that there are instances but many are not reported.
Baruah has mentioned about Universal Declaration of Human Rights and some of the Constitutional Rights in the country. Nion Mushahary mentioned that community must be sensitized to stop killing people in the name of witch hunting. Participants have felt that human rights commission must take action as killing people in the name of witch hunting is prominent in the area. Killers and culprits engaged in killing innocent by blaming them as practicing of witch must be punished. Participant also mentioned that innocent people are harassed as the area is affected by conflict and there was also discussion on act like Armed Forces Special Power Act. NEYF has been organising awareness programme amongst youth and would conduct awareness programme in near future related to human rights, Nion Mushahary, secretary, Kokrajhar district ABSU said.
