We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Stymied peace process: ULFA expels peace monger trio

There is yet another stumbling block that tends to stymie the on going peace process in Assam. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on Monday has expelled the 28th battalion top guns now in ceasefire, namely Captain Mrinal Hazarika, second lieutenants Moon Bora and Jun Sonowal who have been all out to carry forward the peace process. Fire breaks in the city; factory gutted

A devastating fire that broke out in the wee hours on Monday left a city factory completely gutted. The incident took place in the Udalbakra area in at an acid factory but the reason of the fire has yet to be ascertained. Minutes after the fire broke out, fire tenders have been rushed to the spot and it took nearly three hours for the fire tenders to bring the situation under control. When asked, the management officials of the factory refused to speak to reporters when the fire that have engulfed the entire factory. One person has been left with minor injury.

Mrinal Hazarika says they announced ceasefire but will not surrender

Top ranked ULFA cadre of the 28th battalion, now in ceasefire namely Mrinal Hazarika and his aide Jun Bhuyan are camping in the city as part of their mission to carry forward the peace process. They are holding talks with various political parties, organizations and individuals seeking their advice and opinions.Talking to reporters on Sunday, Mrinal said their first duty will be to save the Assamese from the impending identity crisis. The Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti is doubtful of a fruitful peace process following the recent unilateral ceasefire by the A and C companies of ULFA’s 28th battalion.Addressing a press conference in the city on Sunday, the human rights organization leaders said the government has again shown its lack of interest for holding a fruitful negotiation with ULFA. Asom Sahitya Sabha proposes varsity to study art and literature

Lakhimpur and Dhemaji remain cut off as flood fury continues

The north Assam districts of North Lakhimpur and Dhemaji are still reeling under the second wave of flood and more areas have come under the surging waters of the rivers Singara, Jiadhol, Dikrong et al.All sorts of surface communication to North Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts have been remaining snapped from Saturday morning after a temporary sub-way on national highway 52, built following the breach of the main road, was washed away due to heavy flood.According to information, a bailey bridge, being built after NH 52 was breached on June 14, is expected to be opened for traffic this evening that would restore road communication. PCG will stay to broker peace process with govt: Rajkhowa

The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) says it will not dissolve the Peoples’ Consultative Group it formed to broker peace process with the government .But in the same breath it says it will have nothing to do if a member of the panel wants to pull of it citing personal reasons.In a statement, ULFS chairman Arabinda rajkhowa on Saturday has said that though two companies of ULFA's 28 Battalion had criticised the PCG's role in the peace process, the central leadership had constituted it for a specific purpose. Flood situation worsens further in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji

The over all flood situation in Dehmaji and Lakhimpur districts has taken a grim turn again in the face of the the incessant rains that have been lashing the districts along with the catchment areas of the neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh. Lakhs of people in more than 1000 villages have been rendered homeless last evening when the river Jiadhal breached a portion of its embankment in Dhemaji district.
