‘Nervous’ Gogoi fails to link historical facts
Being disturbed since the first phase of polling for Assam Assembly on April 4 last, the Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi is finding it difficult to remember the history of Assam agitation propelled by All Assam Students Union (AASU) since the year 1979 to the Independence Day of 1985, resulting in the Assam Accord which was signed between the Assam Government and the movement leaders in presence of erstwhile prime minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Heavy polling beyond 85 percent of the electorate in the second phase also made Gogoi to think over the majority of young and new voters were not the ‘beneficiaries of getting blankets, yarn and mosquito nets’. They are young, energetic, literate and eager to serve better the state, provided they get an opportunity, which the ‘state government has failed to provide’. It Is because of high level corruption and false promises by the people in power, they might have thought for a change of guards.
Very recently the Chief Minister for the first time made a ‘hazy story’ relating to Assam agitation of 1979 that the same was sponsored by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha (RSS) and the movement was financed by RSS and BJP. Reacting to his comment AASU’s Chief Adviser, Samujjal Bhattacharya has rightly said that the CM Gogoi has lost ‘mental balance’ and talking ‘absurd’ about AASU. He made it clear that the AASU had no link with any political or communal party. The agitation had got full support of the people of the state. He warned the CM not to pass such remarks against AASU in future.
It is interesting that CM Tarun Gogoi has a few ‘slogans’ to repeat on different occasions as well as during the election campaigns. The ‘secret killings’ during the Asom Gana Parisad (AGP) rule and reopening of cases against a few people involved in heinous crimes, which he failed to open during last 15 years of running the administration at a stretch. It is also mockery of civic sense that he keeps silence over the matter of ‘open killings’ in broad day light in different part of the state. Rhinos killings in broad day light are increasing day by day and the administration is silent.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) has arrested an employee of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Guwahati Centre on alleged charges of financial scam worth about Rs.26 lakh. Anusuchit Jati Mahasabha, Assam has alleged high-level corruption in the Directorate of Scheduled Caste, Assam.
