Queer Pride Guwahati

The much colorful Queer Pride Guwahati was held on Sunday with people participating the walk from all walks of the society. A street fashion show by Enlighten was also held to support the LGBTQ community. The walked started in the city from Handique Girls College, Food Villa, Nehru Park, BSNL Office, RKB Hostel and ended back in Dighalipukhuri Park entrance. 

People sang and danced to the beats of dhols and songs, and raised slogans demanding end to all forms of discrimination, violence and oppression against Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer people. The participants protested against the laws, like Section 377 which criminalises consensual sex between adults.

AICC screening panel meets

AICC screening panel is meeting on Friday in New Delhi to fine tune the list of Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7,12 and 24.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and APCC president Bhubneswar Kalita are camping in the capital to attend the meeting.After the screening committee meeting, the party’s election committee is scheduled to meet in the evening where the list is expected to be approved.Senior party leaders told Assam Times that the list would be available by Saturday.  

Akhil to be produced in court

Police are all set to produce Akhil Gogoi seeking more remand in a string of fresh cases pending against the KMSS president.Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi along with two others would be produce before the CJM court at 3 in the afternoon. The 24 hour custody in connection with the self immolation cases would expire on Friday evening.The Kamrup additional chief judicial magistrate extended the police remand by a day after the KMSS president along with three of his associates were produced before the court on Thursday adfternoon.Police sought Gogoi and his associates in their remand for five more days for investigation and interrogation in a number of serious cases. Tiger caught in Guwahati

Yet another leopard was captured in Guwahati on Friday.The full grown leopard was caught in a trap in Kahilipara in the wee hours. With this, forest officials have so far caught five leopards in the entire area from January.More leopards are believed to have been moving in the area on the foothills of the Narakasur hills in the city.

Body found inside car

A body inside an abandoned car seems to have put Jorabat area in flutter on Friday morning.The car was spotted by the local residents who informed the police.Later police recovered a body from this car.Investigation is going on.  

Explosion at oilfield

A huge explosion at an oilfield in Duliajan seems to have created panic among the local residents on Thursday.The explosion took place with a huge sound in the evening at the Oil India Limited owned No 5 oilfield.But the authorities have called it a technical trouble resulting in the massive fire that threatens to engulf the entire oil field. Don’t hold protest: Akhil

Akhil Gogoi has appealed to the KMSS leaders and activists not to hold any protest demanding his release.The KMSS president, who is in police custody for the last four days told his advocate that the activists should not take resort to violence in the name of protest against his arrest.    Gogoi, along with five of his associates were arrested on Sunday wee hours in connection with the recent self immolation case.
