NE Vision 2020: Lots of promise with 13% growth

The North east region will no longer be lingering in the back stage of progress if the North East Vision 2020 is to be believed. To be released by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the national capital on Wednesday, the document, first of its kind in the region will pave the way for a structural transformation in terms of development ensuring a GDP 12.95 per cent growth per annum from the current 7.5 per cent.

Sources here say the entire document aims at bridging the yawning gap of North East with the rest of the country with 9 per cent growth riding piggyback on the investment of Rs. 70,000 to 80,000 crore each financial year which is expected to push the gross budgetary support of 10 per cent amounting Rs. 20-30,000 crore per annum to be effective from the next financial year.

The document hopes that the north eastern states will be able to move neck and neck with the rest of the state with its focus on economy, trade and commerce beside a market-driven infrastructure with better transport facility–railways, roads, water transport and civil aviation.

The document has also stressed peoples participation at the grass root level to be ensured the empowerment of people through self governance saying it can only accelerate growth. Some others tips also include rural development with improvement in the field of agriculture.

Himanta Biswa Sarma acts against striking employees in AMC

Dibrugarh: In a significant step, Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has ordered that wages should be deducted for the month of June for Grade IV employees who went on a strike on June 8, 9 and 10 as they were dissatisfied with the fact that some of the staff was put on duty in different sections of the medical college. One more Rhino killed at Kaziranga

ULFA claims PC Ram is alive
