I will continue my writing: Brajendra Kumar Brahma

Noted poet,writer and former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), Brajendra Kumar Brahma says that he would continue writing in the field of literary towards building of healthy Bodo literature in his whole life.

Brahma, a soft spoken expressing his happiness after winning of the Sahitya Academy award for his poetry book ‘Baidi Dengkhw Baidi Gab’ this year in Bodo section told that the award recognized him from nation level has encouraged him to write more in his life.

‘I would continue my writings till my death as because poem writing is the my ‘first love’ and creations in the field of Bodo litetary will be the last respiration till death’, said Brahma.  

The poem book,which brought academy  award for Brahma, was published by Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 2012 during the sabha session held at Chekamari of West Bengal.

 Brajendra,who was former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS), had earlier bagged the Tagore Literary Award, 2009, of the Sahitya Akademi for his book Raithai Mala, a collection of poems, which was published in 2006.

A winner of three awards till date, Brahma was born on June 1, 1943 at Chalani Batabari village in Kokrajhar district. He passed his matriculation in 1959 from Sakti Ashram Vocational High School, BA in 1968 from St Edmund’s College, Shillong and BT in 1977 from Goalpara Government BT College.Brahma,took retired as Headmaster from Banargaon High School in 2000 and associated with various literary works and social activities.

He has been associated with the Bodo Sahitya Sabha since long, besides served as its joint secretary during 1986-89 and 1990-92. During 1986-88, he was the vice-president of the Bodo Writers’ Academy, then an adviser of the same, and subsequently the president of the BSS during 2002-04 and 2005-07 for terms. He was also the chief editor of Gwdan Giyan, a monthly GK in Bodo, and the chief editor of Somni Agan, a monthly magazine of Bodo poetry.

Timber seized

SSB 16th Battalion seized a tractor loaded with 69 piece of gamari logs  from Balajhar area near Janata bazar, bordering Bhutan, in Chirang district on Tuesday. The seized logs is stated to be worth around 8 lakhs ruppes. Seven persons were arreated in this connection. They have identified as Manwar hussain(22), Mamnal Mak (23), Abdul Barik Ali (25),  Md Abasuddin(25),  Lalson Ali(30), Abdul Aziz(37) and Niren Basumatary(38). The seized materials and the arrested persons were handed over to concern department at Kajalgaon in the district headquarter today.

World AIDS day observed

The World AIDS Day was organised in Kokrajhar with various awarness programme among the public. The Discovery Club, a Kokrajhar based NGO observed the day by organizing a mass campaign on the occasion by distributing IEC materials and Red Ribbon Badges at Kokrajhar. 4000 leaflets, 1200 Red ribbon badges were distributed among the public. The main objective of the occasion was to make people aware about the HIV/AIDS and to partner with every stakeholder in fighting the disease in the district.

AKRSU reacts to Jual

The All Koch Rajbongsi Students Union-Hiteswar Barman faction (AKRSU) strongly reacted to the reamrks of Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram that no any initiative was observed to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the six ethnic communities of Assam ahead state Assembly election early next year. Women empowerment workshop at Nagrijuli

A women empowerment workshop was organized at Nagrijuli of Baksa district today to create awareness about uplift of women among society. Hudreds of educated women from various parts of the area participated in the workshop, was organised by Nagrijuli anchalik committee of All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) and chaired by Phukan Boro, president Nagrijuli anchalik ABSU. Suraksha Manch flays Oboro Suruksha Samiti

Seminar on Conflict, displacement and children’s vulnerability

A two day seminar cum interaction session on 'Conflict, displacement and children’s vulnerability' was organised by Centre for Peace & Conflict studies, Bodoland University and NERSWN at Central Institute of Technology (CIT) in Kokrajhar which begins from Friday. Body recovered

Police recovered body of Taracharan Das, 55, peon of Assam Gramin Vikash Bank, Kokrajhar branch this evening in Kokrajhar.  According to police, body of Das was found on death condition at Kapili lodge above the bank complex building when after bank official noticed that his lifeless body lying inside a room.  Police recovered the body breaking door of the room in the presence of bank official and magistrate. It was suspected that Das, who hailed from Mirza was had over consumed alcohol late last night and met a misery life, said a senior police officer.

Judicial enquiry
