Satyen Sarma, President of Assam Mountaineering Association and a veteran mountaineer became the the Chairman of North East Zone on 10th November 2015. Started his careeras amountaineer with Assam Mountaineering Association and successfully completed Basic and Advance Mountaineering Courses from WHMI, Manali in 1981 and1983. After completing courses inmountaineering he participated four major Himalayan peak climbing expeditionnamely Mt Choukhamba- 7138, Gangotri 1- 6672m, Bhagirathi 6859 m& Mulkilla -1 beside many trekking. Sarma took the charges ofPresident of Assam Mountaineering Association on 2nd September 2013till now. In his tenure the association organised many major venture whichinclude an expedition to Mt.Everest 8850 m. For his bold leadership the adventurism in Assamdeveloping at a very rapid speed.

The first phase will decide the fate of altogether 28,680 candidates in eight districts.
Of them, 643 candidates will contest for the post of Zilla Parishad member, 2,801 for Anchalik Panchayat member, 3,099 candidates for Gaon Panchayat president's post and 22,137 candidates filed their nominations for Gaon Panchayat membership.
First phase will include Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Golaghat, Kaliabor, Nagaon Sadar, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts. The counting of votes would take place on February 14 and February 15.
