Bina Hazarika, a tribute

Words can never fully express how much someone means to us. But circumstances are compelling me to pen down a few memories of my dear grandmother, whom I never thought would leave me alone so abruptly and so soon.

My beloved grandmother (Aaita), Bina Hazarika passed away on November 5, 2015 at 5:00 am at Marwari Hospital, Athgaon, Guwahati.

Born at Pub-Pahartoli Goalpara town in 1932, she was married to Late Tara Prasad Hazarika, noted freedom fighter at a very early age after completion of schooling from Goalpara.

She was associated with various social and religious activities and also contributed with her valuable creative writings in Assamese literature. She wrote many poems and stories in various Assamese print media. “Goti”, a story written by my grandmother in “PROTIDHONI” , which was edited by Dr. Bhupen Hazarika during 1990 is an unique creation of her.

For me my Aaita was my crowning support.  She was a wonderful mother with lots of patience. Aaita was for me a little bit of parent, a little bit of teacher and a little bit of my best friend. Always caring and compassionate she lived life to the fullest have to be her amiable nature she was the one who was loved by one and all. On the occasion of Adya Shraddha on November 17, 2015, I wish that my Aaita will listen my speechless feelings for her:”

     The one who is true
     Always there for me
     No matter what you see
     A friend I count on you
     More than you know
     Thanks for all u did”.

Destiny has taken her away from our midst forever, but her memories, her deeds will never be erased from our memories. We pray to the almighty today so that her departed soul may rest in eternal peace.

NHRC notice to Assam, Nagaland

The Assam Government will soon move a bill in the upcoming assembly session to appoint Lukayukta in the state.Disclosing this, chief minister Tarun Gogoi told reporters in Dispur on Wednesday that the bill to this effect would be raised in the short assembly session to clear the decks for appointing the Lukayukta in the line of the Central government.

ULFA(I) kills senior leader

A senior ULFA leader belonging to the Paresh Baruah faction is learnt to have met punishment for his alleged involvement in a financial scam.According to sources, the ULFA (I) leader is believed to be Partha Pratim Gogoi who has been partially looking after the finance side for the last couple of years.Gogoi, the self styled eastern area commander was killed by the organization a few days back. There is no details of the scam that rocked the banned insurgent outfit.

Gogoi backs Rahul as PM

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday rallied behind Rahul Gandhi two days after the Congress Vice president announced his preparedness to shoulder any responsibility.Talking to reporters in Dispur, the chief minister said that it was his desire to see the youth icon as the country’s prime minister.

Cong set to win 2 RS seats

Congress is set to win two of the three Rajya Sabha seats in the polls slated for February 7. The ruling party is likely to leave the remaining seat for the Bodoland Peoples’ Party.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave hint of the equation at a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday. He said that the equation is simple in view of the continuing alliance between Congress and BPF. Contest polls: Gogoi to ULFA(I)

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that he would welcome Paresh Baruah if ULFA((I) comes forward to contest in the polls.Talking to reporters on Wednesday in Dispur, Gogoi said that he would be happy if the outfit along with the Akhil Gogoi—led KMSS and Aam Admi Party join the election process.   

Youths crushed to death

Two local youths were killed in Nagaon district when a speeding truck rammed in to their scooter on Tuesday.The tragic mishap took place on the national highway in Bebejia when the scooter in which the youths were riding on from the market.The duo died on the spot. An irate mob then came to the street and set on fire the truck after the driver managed to escape.

In a bizarre incident that sends shockwaves across the state, a Class X student from Guwahati was burnt alive in Morigaon on Monday.The incident took place in Morigaon where a school boy was burnt to death at a bhelaghar hours after he went with his one of his friends in the morning.Police on Tuesday arrested his four friends who took the student to Morigaon from Guwahati.

Mooshahary to fight from Kokrajhar

After months of will-he-won’t-he, Ranjeet Sekhar Mooshahary finally announced that he would contest the upcoming Lok Sabbha polls.Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar on Tuesday, the former Meghalaya Governor gave hint of contesting the polls as an independent candidate.His announcement bears significance a few days after he visited the Aam Admi Party office in Guwahati where he was apprised of the party’s position and procedures.
