The First North East Peoples’ Parliament hosted by Coalition for Indigenes’ Rights Campaign (CIRCA), Manipur, Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) and Assam Meitei Apunba Lup (AMAL) has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The Parliament was originally scheduled from 13 November to 15 November 2015 in Imphal. The Parliament will be rescheduled from 8 December to 10 December 2015 in Imphal. A committee has also been formed to facilitate the conduct of the Parliament. Somorendro Thokchom, Matiur Rahman and Wangkhemcha Saratchandra have been assigned as conveners. Ningthouja Lancha and Soubam Rajen have been assigned Coordinator and Finance In-charge respectively.
The First North East Peoples’ Parliament will be organized with avision to resolve all issues and threats faced by the indigenous people of the region. The Parliament envisions a common platform to protect and defend the distinct social, cultural, economic and political identities of the indigenes through a collective and unified effort in the line of United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UN DRIP), 2007.
The Parliament will provide a common platform to share and exchange our views and ideas on the rights of the indigenes to govern ourselves in matters relating to our internal and local affairs an home rule so as to conserve our distinct political, legal, economic, social, and cultural institutions. This historical episode looks forward to bring together all the leaders and representatives of indigenous peoples of the North East India in recognition of our historical connections and geo-political interdependence.
Yakaai Kongjang (Awakening Campaign) for the unity of all ethnic communities which has been carrying on by CIRCA, Manipur since 21 August 2015 in Manipur has been extended to other states of the North East Region of India in association with Assam Sanmilita Mahasangha (ASM) and Assam Meitei Apunba Lup (AMAL). During this campaign, the first ever North East Indigenous Peoples’ Parliament 2015 (NIPP 2015) is to be jointly organized by the three organizations to resolve all issues and threats that challenge the survival of the indigenous peoples of the region.
