A home ministry report finds a safe route of arms smugglers in the north eastern state of Assam. Security forces have seized 1705 illegal arms in the state during the last four years.
According to the report from January to June this year alone 187 illegal weapons have been seized by the security forces suggesting the growing cases of arms smuggling. This is apart from the seizure of 525 arms in 2012. The number of illegal arms seized in 2013 stands at 542 against 451 such seizure in 2014.
Manipur is not lagging behind in the seizure of illegal firearms. Security forces seized 1,249 illegal arms in the restive north eastern state. This is apart from the seizure of 565 firearms in Nagaland.
The seizure of illegal arms in Meghalaya is, however, 388 while the figure stands at 149 in Mizoram. Security forces in Arunachal Pradesh have seized 23 illegal weapons while in Tripura the number of seized illegal arms is 69 during the period.
