Homage to historical hero
A huge public meeting in Golaghat on Sunday vowed to keep the Birochan Chutia alive in the pages of history.
Speakers after speakers in the open meeting at Jamuguri Public Hall expressed grave concern over the conspicuous ignorance of the historians which is why, a section of real hero has been missing from the golden pages of history.
Same it took place in the case of Veer Birochan Chutia who was the last station head of Sokialting of Jamuguri who was killed by the British rulers in Rongpur for refusing to abide by them.
Now the local people have realized his sacrifice forcing them to pay tribute to the martyr on Sunday.
Those who spoke on the occasion include Motiur Rahman, Radhika Ballav Goswami and Apurba Ballav Goswami, Ashok Das,
Dinesh Gogoi who highlighted the real role the martyr in the struggle against the foreign ruling clique. The focus of attraction was a book dealing with the Veer Birochan Chutia’s life and work which was released in the meeting. The book was compiled by Amrit Ballav Goswami.

The health and family welfare department and National Health Mission in Golaghat jointly launched the mission Tejaswi has started in the district on Saturday.The scheme to remove anaemia was launched by joint director for health and family welfare, Dr AK Borthakur where on Saturdays and Wednesdays in October, the children and pregnant women would get iron syrups and tablets. Police claimed to have caught a dreaded Maoist leader who has been trying to expand the base for the last couple of years. Identified as Aditya Bora he was arrested by Golaghat police on Wednesday evening.According to police, he was arrested during a combing operation on Wednesday night led by additional SP Numal Mahato at Khakondguri area near Dergaon.Aditya Bora was caught along with his two of his associates Uttam Hazarika and Binando Bora. Police recovered one 9mm pistol, 12rounds of live cartridges and some other particles from their possession.
The Golaghat police nabbed two persons from Furkating Rail station after recovering ganja from their possession on Wednesday night. Identified as Vijay Chetri and Ganesh Pandey, the duo were carrying ganja worth Rs 3 lakh from Manipur to Arunachal Pradesh. They confessed to have bought ganja from a Kuki villages in Manipur to be supplied to other parts of region.
Hundreds of AASU leaders and workers hit the streets in Golaghat on Wednesday in protest against the Centre’s move to give shelter to the non Muslim refugees from Bangladesh and Pakistan.Later they held a huge rally at the General Field premises where around 10,000 students vowed to fight the decision. AASU adviser Dr. Samujjwal Bhattacharya, President Dipankar Nath, General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi joined the mass rally and asked the Centre not to proceed with the deal.
AASU adviser Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya finally cleared his position two days after Tapan Gogoi and Shankar Prasad Ray joined BJP. Talking to reporters in Golaghat on Wednesday, the adviser said joining active politics is a personal thing and that he has hardly anything to do. “The duo join BJP after their tremendous contribution for AASU. But I personally can say that AASU will never compromise the greater interest of Assam and its people,” said Dr Bhattacharya.
