Nagas oppose controversial bills

The Nagas in Manipur are also dead opposed to the three controversial bills responsible for the orgy of violence in Churachandur where 9 people were killed.

In a memorandum sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday, the various Naga organizations in the restive north eastern state said that the controversial bills were meant to suppress, oppress and exploit the tribal people and also to grasp the lands of these lots.

They further said,” we strongly condemned the merciless killing of nine innocent civilians at Churachandpur district consequent upon the passing of anti-Naga and anti-tribal bills and resolutions on August 31 by the Manipur Legislative Assembly.”

Notably, putting Churachandpur on the boil, Manipur legislative assembly cleared Protection of Manipur People Bill, Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill and Manipur Shops and Establishments (Second Amendment) Bill on August 31.
