Ex-AASU leaders unlikely to join BJP

The Centre’s move on non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani refugees have made it difficult for two top former AASU leaders to join BJP.

Sources told Assam Times Tapan Kumar Gogoi and Sankar Prasad Roy who are slated to join the saffron party on Wednesday are contemplating to step back.

“How they will join BJP after the party wants to keep the non Muslim Bangladeshi immigrants as refugees where only Assam will have to bear the brunt?” said an AASU leader who are all out against the move.

“Gogoi and Ray are disappointed with the Centre’s decision. They are in touch with the state leadership. But nothing has come out,” said the AASU leader to refused to be named.

Another AASU leader told Assam Times that the former AASU leaders are sure of their damaging poll prospect forcing to step back. “What they would do now? They cannot oppose the NDA government’s move. They can’t buy the idea of allowing any Hindu, Buddhist, Christian Bangladeshis to stay in Assam as refugees.”

The decision to join BJP was cleared hardy a week before the Centre decided to allow the non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistanis to stay in the country as refugees without any valid documents which will encourage the influx from across the border.
