At least 40 passengers had a narrow escape from death when the bus carrying them caught fire in Sonitpur district on Monday. The incident took place at Sootea area in Biswanath Chariali in the wee hours. Passengers told ne24 that the bus was on its way to Dimapur from Chilapathar.
“As the bus halted for a while in Sootea we came to see smoke billowing from the engine. We got down in fear. Minutes after it the bus caught in the fire,” said a passenger who was on his way to Dimapur from Dhemaji.
Another passenger said, “the bus caught fire. We are safe but our bags were reduced to ashes.” Fire tenders arrived in the spot and brought the inferno under fire. The reason is said to be technical snag.
