In a rare case, a couple sustained grave injury after an incident of acid attack in Dibrugarh district on Thursday a day before the accused was caught by a local mob to be arrested by police.
Identified as Manik Baruah, he was caught by the mob on Friday for the bizarre attack on the couple at a public place in Bhadoi Panchali sending shock and anger across the state.
Local resident told Assam Times that Manik made the acid attack on Angod Borgohain and his wife at a public place and vanished from the spot.
The couple was rushed to the Assam Medical College in Dibrugarh where they have been battling for life. Policemen tracing the case failed to pick up the perpetrators forcing the local women to catch him on Friday afternoon.
After a meeting the crowd dragged him into the police station to be arrested and interrogated.
The last incident of acid attack took place in 2013 in Darrang where the victims were two young girls along with their mother and grand mother.
