A huge PWD scam that rattles Arunachal Pradesh puts Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in big trouble. The Gauhati High Court on Friday asked the Central Bureau of Investigation to probe Tuki’s role in the scam in 2010 when he was holding the PWD portfolio. A bench of acting chief justice Sreedharan Rao asked the country’s premier investigation agency to register a case against the sitting chief minister who was PWD minister when the Rs 2000 crore scam took place. The order came on a PIL filed by one Nabam Tabam in 2010. A Rs 3 crore contract for construction of low-cost housing for Safai Karmachari was awarded to M/S N.E. Agency in gross violation of norms and procedure. The agency is owned by Nabam Yani, wife of Nabam Tuki. Nabam Yani was further awarded another contract for construction of staff quarters for Rs 52 lakh. The CBI has been directed to file an FIR and submit the final report before the jurisdictional special court in Guwahati under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
