Custodial death triggers protest in Gohpur

The death of a local youth in army custody triggers a huge protest in Gohpur on Wednesday. People in large number hit the streets demanding action against the army officials who picked up the tea garden youth along with two others. They threatened to intensify the agitation if the authority fails to ensure exemplary punishments of the guilty army jawans. A section of the protestors demand judicial probe into the incident.

On the other hand, Congress leader and former Gohpur MLA Ripun Bora met chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday and demanded a thorough probe into the incident. He blamed army's lack of coordination with local police. Three youths were picked up by the army jawans in Gohpur. But one of the trio died in the custody sending shock and anger in the entire district.
