Good news for 6 communities

Tai Ahom, Koch Rajbanshi, Moran, Mutocks  along with two others are likely to get ST status.

The good news for the six communities has come from the Centre when the six ethnic community leaders hunkered down with Union tribal affairs minister Juel Ornam in New Delhi on Thursday.

Flanked by sports minister Sarbabanda Sonowal, Ornam said the Centre will have to change the modalities in the soon to be held cabinet meeting.

After the seal of approval from the cabinet, the modalities would be ready. It would take two or three months to complete the entire proceedings.

Later the delegation talked to union home minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence.

The move assumed significance despite the escalating protest of the existing ST people.

The other two are tea tribes and Sutiya not chutia. Ahom ,  Koch and Sutiya were ruling class of Assam during medievel period. Next time please name the ''other two'' as sentiments are related to it.

Modi to open global investment summit in Feb

Assam is preparing to host the global investment summit next year. The decision to hold the huge event was created by thr cabinet meeting in Dispur on Tuesday chaired by chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal. Salary discrimination: Primary teachers on strike

Normal classes remained heavily disrupted in 42,000 primary schools across the state on Monday when the teachers stayed away from duties allging utter discrimination of the government.Called by the Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA), sround 116,000 teachers have not been attending the classes from the morning much to the major inconveniace of 40 lakh students. 7 army personnel dead in Tawang chopper crash

The seven deceased who died in the chopper crash in Arunachal Pradesh were army personnel when the helicopter carrying them crash landed on Thursday sending a shockwave across the country. The incident  took placed at a remote place near Tawang early in the morning when the team was on a routine sortie to Tawang bordering China. Arunachal Pradesh has been witnessing a few such chopper crashes for the last ten years and the victims include, Dorjee Khandu, the chief minister. Two years back, a deputy commissioner died in chopper crash.

Jail for Zubeen Garg

A lower court in Guwahati on Thursday jailed Zubeen Garg for slapping a young boy in the city four years back.  The Guwahati session court cleared the judgment when after hearing both the two parties and imposed ₹5,000 fine to the victim, the son of a senior lawyer, whom he alleged slapped four years back. The victim then moved the court and conducted a few rounds of hearing and pronounced the landmark judgment on Thursday.
