No respite from mercury

There seems to be no respite from sweltering heatwaves that continues to disrupt normal life across the state on Thursday. The temperature stood at 30 at 7 in the morning and it could go up to 38 towards the afternoon.

Weathermen blamed it on a low atmospheric pressure over the northeast Bay of Bengal preventing moisture flow into the north eastern region.

Guwahati city recorded the highest temperature of 37.6° Celsius in the month of July since 1966. The same figure is expected on Thursday.

Same it is in Dibrugarh while Jorhat and Tezpur recorded 36° Celsius on Wednesday which is expected to remain unchanged on Thursday.
