After a brief silence, Imphal is again on the boil forcing the authorities to clamp curfew in the capital town on Wednesday.
A school student was killed when security forces sprang upon a group of protestors who hit the streets demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the state.
Identified as Sapam Robihood, the Anand Singh Higher Secondary School student died after security forces lobbed tear gas shells at him when policemen were trying to disperse the protests at Minuthong area in Imphal East district in the afternoon.
He succumbed to his injuries as soon as he was rushed to the hospital.
The incident forced the authorities to clamp curfew in Imphal West and East districts from 4 in the after afternoon.
The incident marked the end of the 19-hour general strike by the Joint Committee on Inner Line System (JCILS) which has been spearheading the agitation to scrap the Manipur Regulation of Visitors Tenant and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015 and passing of a new one to “safeguard the interests of indigenous people and fulfil their aspirations”.
