NDFB-S ultra killed

Security forces claimed to have killed yet another NDFB(S) militant-responsible for the gory Adivasi carnage in December last year.
Identified as Rinsar Narzary alias Gaitha, he was killed at an encounter at Amteka area in Chirang district on Tuesday wee hours.
The encounter took place in the wee hours during a joint operation by police and CRPF's Cobra battalion.
Police further claimed top havre captured one 9 mm Browning pistol, one 36 HE (high explosive) grenades, one magazine, five live rounds and four fired rounds.

Former minister cremated in Golaghat

The mortal remains of Prabin Kumar Gogoi consigned to flames after the lifeless AGP veteran arrived in Golaghat on Tuesday.  His fans thronged in thousands at his residence as soon as the body arrived to be followed by last respect to the former minister.

Then his body was taken with a huge procession to the cremation ground. Many people deplored that the minister was cremated with full state honour. Gogoi died at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital on Monday after prolonged illness.    

 

Rio stakes claim to form Nagaland Govt

KOHIMA: NDPP legislative party leader   Neiphiu Rio on Sunday called on Governor PB Acharya and staked claims to form the government a day after the new regional party and BJP came close to the magic mark.   

The Governor asked the NDPP leader Rio to submit signatures of all the 32 MLAs supporting him by Monday to take a final conclusion on the formation of the new government in the north eastern state.  NDPP and BJP have won 30 seats where JD(U) MLA G Kaito Aye and Independent legislator Tongpang Ozukum announced support to Rio and his party.

Imphal on the boil

After a brief silence, Imphal is again on the boil forcing the authorities to clamp curfew in the capital town on Wednesday.

A school student was killed when security forces sprang upon a group of protestors who hit the streets demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the state.

Identified as Sapam Robihood, the Anand Singh Higher Secondary School student died after security forces lobbed tear gas shells at him when policemen were trying to disperse the protests at Minuthong area in Imphal East district in the afternoon.

He succumbed to his injuries as soon as he was rushed to the hospital.

The incident forced the authorities to clamp curfew in Imphal West and East districts from 4 in the after afternoon.

The incident marked the end of the 19-hour general strike by the Joint Committee on Inner Line System (JCILS) which has been spearheading the agitation to scrap the Manipur Regulation of Visitors Tenant and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015 and passing of a new one to “safeguard the interests of indigenous people and fulfil their aspirations”.
