At least ten people sustained injury when a city bus rammed into an auto rickshaw along with a two wheeler in Guwahati on Thursday. The tragic accident took place at around 11 in the morning at the busy Paltanbazar area when a Ganeshguri bound city bus rammed into a two wheeler after the driver lost his control over it. A college student who was sitting on the stranded two wheeler received serious injury to be rushed to the GMCH where he is battling for life. Then it again rammed into an auto rickshaw before halting beside the Vishal Mega Mart. Three people who were travelling on the ill fated auto rickshaw also sustained injury. Seven other passenger who sustained serious injury are battling for life at the MMC and GMC Hospitals.

The student name is Ajoy Kumar Das, he is a Guwahati city office secretary of akhil bharatiya vidyarthi parishad (ABVP). Now he is admitted in Gnrc Sixmile.
Yet another alleged incident of gangrape struck Guwahati. The main accused is in police custody. The incident took place at Maligaon where three youths allegedly gangraped and assaulted a 20 year old girl under the flyover at 11 at night. Local residents rescued the girl and caught the main accused who was handed over to the police. But the two others managed to flee from the spot. Later the girl was rushed to the Guwahati Medical College. Apart from interrogating the accused, police are waiting for the medical report to confirm it a case of gangrape.
Two back to back earthquakes struck Assam on Wednesday leaving 2 dead in Golaghat besides demolishing several school buildings in the district. The earthquake measuring 5.5 in the Rickhter scale originated at Borpothar along Golaghat-Karbi Anglong district border at 9.48 in the morning. Two persons died in Golaghat district as they were trying to run out of ther homes when the quake started shaking. Apart from this, cracks surfaced in several buildings housing schools. Properties worth one crore reduced to ashes when a Guwahati-based bar caught fire on Tuesday. The incident took place at the Midtown Bar Christian Basti probably because of electrical short circuit at 5.30 in the evening. Fire tenders reached the spot in time but it had to fight for almost 3 hours to bring the situation under control. Investigation is going on.
Guwahati Book Fair gets underway on Tuesday. Assam governor JB Patnaik open the 10 days book festival at the main venue in Chandmari. Patnaik in his address said that the event would help the state and its people strike a permanent deal with the book culture. In yet another incident that can brew an orgy of group clash, unidentified miscreants vandalized idols of the goddess Kali in a few temples and puja pandals in Baksa district on Monday. The incident took place at Jwarkuchi in the district.The local people in large number blocked the Indo-Bhutan international road for a few hours in protest against the incident.Police and civil officials rushed to the area and appealed the people to maintain peace and harmony. The Assam government on Monday has announced an ex-gratia grant of Rs 6 lakh to the next of kin of the deceased and free medical treatment for the injured Gendamari. Six killed on the spot while another succumbed to injuries on the way to the GMCH. Nine other people have been undergoing treatment at the GMCH. The district has embroiled in violence since October 20 after Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council elections declared scheduled to be held in between November 13 and 25. The Non Rabhas demand exclusion of non Rabha areas from the Council.
A gory incident that left 7 people in Goalpara district bordering Meghalaya has forced the authority to clamp night curfew on Monday. Army and police are on patrolling duty at Gendamari area where suspected GNLA militants shot dead seven persons at a dewali function on Sunday night.The night curfew is in force from 7 in the evening to 6 in the morning. National Highway 62 between Damra in Assam and Dalu in Meghalaya as well as NH 51 between Paikan and Dalu along with Khargang-Resubelpara road are not under the purview of the curfew.
Two more youths were found dead at Jorabat in the outskirt of Guwahati on Monday. The semi-naked bodies were recovered from a culvert in the morning. Both the bodies bore some injury marks in the heads. Police investigation are going on.
Amid dewali pomp and gaiety, a youth was beaten to death in Guwahati on Sunday night. Identified as Pankaj Pathak, the youth was attacked by unidentified miscreants, probably followed by a road mishap at night. Pathak's body was found beside a temple in the morning. His bike was also found near the body.
