Police officers suspended

Amid an aroused controversy over the death of a Meghalaya woman under the detention of Dispur police, the authorities on Wednesday suspended two police officers besides refuting the charges of rape.

Police commissioner Mukesh Agarwal told reporters that sub inspectors Pritilota Talukdar and Sanjeev Chetri have been suspended for dereliction of their duties.

Citing the preliminary enquiry report, he brushed aside the allegations of rape inside the police station. According to him, she died of breathing difficulties.

Notably, the woman who was detained in Dispur police station on Sunday night was found hanging inside the toilet when the duo were on their duties.

Hours after it, much to a major embarrassment for police, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi alleged that she was raped and killed inside the Dispur police station.
