It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

A minor boy was killed and several others sustained injury when the bus carrying them rammed into a diveder on the road in Lakhimpur district on Sunday. The mishap took place at Hawajan near Narayanpur in the wee hours when the bus was on its way from Barpeta Road to Dhemaji. The driver was believed to have lost his control over the bus which turned turtle after ramming into the divider. A minor boy died on the spot while over 20 others sustained injury to be rushed to the Lakhimpur Civil Hospital.

Over 50 people sustained injury when a huge storm lashed Sivasagar heavilly disrupting a bihu function in the town on Sunday. The storm lashed the district in the wee hours uprooting trees beside disrupting suface communication in parts of the district. Many people including the deputy commissioner sustained injury when the storm struck at a bihu function in the Boarding Playground. The uprooted trees blocked the road for several hours. Normal life comes to a grinding halt in Barak valley districts on Friday following the 12 hour bandh in protest against the arrest of Siddique Ali Ahmed.Vehicles are not plying on the roads from 6 in the morning while the businessmen down their shutters till 6 in the evening. The Kamrup Metro district administration formed a Special Committee for the inspection of schools in the city. The team visited several schools in the city during the month. Yet another body of pilgrim from Assam has been identified in Nepal. Identified as Padma Mazumdar, the resident of Hengrabari area of Guwahati has been traceless since the massive tremor ravaged the Himalaya kingdom. Her son and son in law discovered her decomposed body from Chising Hospital in Kathmandu on Thursday. The body would be flown to New Delhi on Friday and after post mortem it would be sent to Guwahati.
