PCDR stages dharna

The Gossaigaon unit of People’s Co-ordination for Democratic Rights (PCDR), staged a 3 hours protest dharna infront of Gossaigaon Civil SDO office on Wednesday highlighting a slew of demands.

These demands include deputation of sufficient doctors and other staffs at 100-beded Gossaigaon RNB Civil hospital, stopped of corruption and extortion, construction of more sanitation in and around the town, construction of over-bridge across NH-31 from Gossaigaon bazaar to SDO civil road, stop of the Kamrup express train at Gossaigaon hat railway station etc. 

Over a hundreds PDCR activists and supporters from Gossaigaon subdivision  participated in the protest dharna programme .

A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on the issues through the Gossaigaon Civil SDO .

Among those who participated in the dharna includes BTC member from Jumduar constituency Jiron Basumatary.

Talking to reporters, Basumatary voiced his concern over poor infrastructure and lack of basic amenities in the area despite Gossiagaon being an important  sub-divisional town.

'Gossaigaon is an important town as it is the entry point connecting Northeast with the rest of the country but it still remain neglected lot with little development and facilities all these years, he said.

He said that the 100 bedded Civil hospital in Gossaigaon is running without sufficient doctors and other heath staffs for which poor villagers are deprived of medical treatment and have to rushed in nearby West Bengal towns for better heath care, he said and demanded deputation of more specialized doctors and nurses at the hospital at the earliest.

He also expressed his concern over the huge corruption and extortions and illegal collections of funds near the Srirampur Damra composite check-gate which resulted in the rise in prices of essential commodities and demanded immediate steps to end the practice for the interest of all concerned.

Basumatary alos said that Gossaigaon town is a developing town with ample scope for providing all sort of civic amenities.
