Dhansiri awards

Saptahik Dhansiri, a weekly published from Golaghat, celebrated its 35th foundation day on April 12. To mark the occasion,  a seminar on "Women Journalists and Women Empowerment" was held at the Municipal Auditorium. Teresa Rehman, editor of the online magazine Thumb Prints, Dr Madhurima Goswami from Chandraprabha Saikiani Women Studies Centre (Tezpur University) and Dr Mouchumi Mahanta were the the appointed speakers of the seminar conducted by Sobha Borkotoky Sarma. Jahnabi Khound, asst. editor, Asomiya Pratidin, Prafulla Pran Mahanta, former editor of Saptahik Dhansiri and noted conservationist Jibon Chandra Das were the guests on the occasion.

The Dhansiri Trust also instituted a few awards to honour the women journalists of the state and gave away the Syed Abdul Malik award to Rina Kotoky. Noted environment journalist Mubina Akhtar has been honoured with the Dhansiri Upatyaka Award while  Kuntalika Barua was awarded with Dr. Hem Bora Memorial Award. Bobita Bora, Mina Nagri and Preeti Parik were also honoured by the Trust.
